The Canadiens lost last night 4-0 to Carolina and are one loss away from elimination in the Eastern Conference final. Three goals scored within minutes beginning at 14.59 of the first period, took the wind out of Hab sails. The team couldn’t solve the overwhelming Hurricane forechecking and its physical play, beating up the smaller Nos Glorieux consistently and resulting the Canadiens chasing the game for most of the night. Former Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halak carried the ceremonial torch into the Bell Centre. Many fans leaving the Centre admit Carolina’s aggressive forechecking was too much to handle. Next game in Raleigh tomorrow night at 8 p.m.

A crisis unit and more money for boroughs are among new measures from the City of Montreal that will tackle homelessness and see weekly meetings that will achieve quicker decision-making, help the homeless find housing and deal with interventions at homeless camps.

Prime Minister Carney says that a bare majority (50% + 1) will not be enough for Quebec to leave Canada, and that Parliament will have the final say in any referendum, including the question asked and the percentage of eligible voters, as stipulated under the federal Clarity Act. Members of the CAQ, Liberals, Parti Québécois and Québec Solidaire have all denounced Carney’s statement.
