Taking waste seriously during Quebec’s waste reduction week

The city of Laval is taking Quebec’s waste reduction week seriously again this year. Groups and individuals from across Quebec and Canada are celebrating Waste Reduction Week by rethinking, reducing, reusing and recycling from Oct. 18-25. A thematic community garage sale and second hand bike collection will be available during the week long push to wards better waste management.

Garage Sale October 19

If your child has outgrown it’s baby and toddler items such as toys, clothing, small furniture and books there will be a garage sale held on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 9-2 p.m. at Pavillion du Bois Papineau, 3235 St. Martin East. To participate registration is required, places are limited. Only the first 35 registrations will be accepted. The form is available on the city website at www.laval.ca under Environment, recycling and collections/ special activities and programs.

Second hand bike collection

Bring your second hand bikes to the city debris site located at 1526 Cunard road on Oct. 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Bikes will be collected and refurbished or used for their parts depending on their condition. The bikes will then be part of a shared bike system call Vélorange in Saint François or donated to those in need. Velorange is a community self serve bike service.

Leaf collection

With fall upon us and the colourful leaves falling Laval will be offering door to door collection of leaves from Oct. 13-Nov. 14. Leaves should be placed in paper bags and placed at the curb on the same day as that the collection of recyclable materials is held.
