Paul St. Pierre Plamondon is Premier-elect of Quebec. Quebecers have decided that a Parti Québécois minority government is good for now. The resurgence for the Parti Québécois follows 10+ years in the shadows. The PQ has won 59 seats; 64 are needed to form a majority. The Liberal Party of Quebec under Charles Milliard will be the official Opposition, with 40 seats. Éric Duhaime’s Conservative Party is in official party territory, winning 19 seats (12 is needed to be considered an official party in Quebec. Québec Solidaire comes in fourth, with nine seats, and its spokeswoman, Ruba Ghazal, likes the party’s “strong showing”. Outgoing Premier Fréchette is blaming herself for the CAQ’s showing, with zero seats.
