Montreal fans have been so loud at the Bell Centre that seismic activity registered at 0.5 on the Richter scale by a Natural Resources Canada seismograph at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf (5 km from the Centre, as well as at a McGill University basement lab.

Premier Fréchette will meet with Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Tony Wakeham, as he looks to renegotiate the Churchill Falls energy agreement because he finds that the deal is not in his province’s best interest. Prime Minister Carney says that his government is prepared to help where it can to reach an energy deal, adding he has already had a number of meetings on the matter, as has his Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson.

Prime Minister Carney has launched construction of the Nouveau Monde Graphite’s Matawinie mine in Quebec’s Lanaudière region, 120 km north of Montreal, where 106,000 tonnes of graphite is expected to come out annually, potentially making it the largest of its kind in North America.

In Paris, Premier Fréchette has reiterated her intention to reactivate the Programme de l’Expérience Québécoise, a fast-track for immigrants to become Quebecers, in her meeting with the President of the French National Assembly, after it was shelved by Minister Jean-François Roberge.

Montreal civil lawyer, 72-year-old Daniel Rochefort, who was arrested earlier this month in a child luring and production of child pornography investigation, remains in jail as two specialized police units investigate additional complaints that have come to light, since the news first broke a few days ago.

An 18-year-old Riviere des Prairies man will appear in court today on charges of discharging a firearm and arson, in the investigation of the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy found two years ago near a Hell’s Angels bunker, south of Quebec City.
