Three homeless people have died in one week on Montreal’s streets. Frontline workers say that this is a warning of the very real consequences of the city’s homelessness crisis. Montreal Mayor Martinez Ferada had to pause a news conference in tears, when the reality of the homeless crisis, hit home.

The bodies of the two Air Canada pilots—Captain Antoine Forest and first officer Mackenzie Gunther, who died when their jet crashed into a fire truck at Laguardia airport in New York—are back in Canada.

Canada’s Minister of Official Languages, Marc Miller has accused the Bloc Québécois of spreading “nonsense” about the anglicization of Quebec. “I do not wish to dignify comments” made in the House by Bloc MP Mario Beaulieu, that the federal government has spent ‘over $2.4 billion to strengthen English in Quebec since 1995.’”

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre has unveiled a postdoctoral fellowship program—Canada’s Best—to recruit young researchers from around the world and strengthen Quebec’s position as a leading force in biomedical research in Canada and worldwide.

STEAM is now full time at East Hill Elementary School in Rivière des Prairies and will change how students learn, using a hands-on, problem-solving approach. The science, technology, engineering arts and mathematics program encourages critical thinking through real-world application, rather than traditional teaching methods. The EMSB started the pilot project in 2016-2017 school year, which addresses gaps in creativity, communication and design, essential skills for the 21st century.
