For the upcoming province-wide municipal elections that will take place this November, incumbent borough Mayor Claude Dauphin and his team of candidates will be running under a newly created party known as Équipe Dauphin Lachine.
The Suburban spoke to Dauphin about the creation of the new party. One of the reasons Dauphin has started the new team is so that “all candidates running with our team will be easily identified and we wanted to create a party that would focus on local matters.”
“Maybe we might make alliances with other parties in the city of Montreal later but for now we want to concentrate on local matters with candidates that share a similar vision,” said Dauphin. “Having an identified party also helps with fundraising as our team’s goal is to put Lachine first.”
Some of the issues Dauphin and his team, which he will be announcing his slate in the coming weeks, will be to continue to work for better funding from the city of Montreal, an issue Dauphin has been working on for the last few years.
Dauphin wants to work on redeveloping the eastern end of the borough as well as extending Lachine’s waterfront as well as working closely with the AMT for the construction of the new Victoria train station. Another project near and dear to Dauphin will be the eventual renovations for the library.
“We also have plans to improve our commercial artery with our new arrivals coming to live in the borough’s east end,” said Dauphin.
As well as finalizing his team, Dauphin will also be working on policies and financing initiatives for the new Équipe Dauphin Lachine.
