During the January meeting of Verdun’s borough council, citizens asked about road repair, snow clearing, traffic lights, green lanes, the bridge to Nuns’ Island, the potential beach, vandalism in the Metro, and the contamination at the ecological golf course and dark sky measures on Nuns’ Island.

Mayor Parenteau confirmed that Gordon Street will be ripped up so that the sewage lines can be replaced this summer and next. The section of Gordon between LaSalle and Verdun will be done during the summer of 2015. The rest will be done during the summer of 2016.

The mayor also confirmed that the city is planning on purchasing the alley between Galt, de L’Église and Verdun so that it can be greened. The alleyway, which has an unclear ownership, has been snow-cleared and maintained by local residents who would like borough support for their efforts.

Borough councillors also awarded $113,825.25 to La Station, $98,614.06 to Lumca Inc. for exterior lighting, $54,800 to Action Prévention Verdun and $2,500 to Maison St. Gabriel for a table at their volunteer event on April 8, 2015.

They also approved the demolition of two buildings. The commercial building at 5025 rue Bannantyne will be replaced with a seven-unit residential building. The two-storey building at 903-905 Rielle will be replaced by a three-storey six-unit building.

They presented a project to modify the building at 750-756 de L’Église to enable a restaurant to move into the basement.

Services-in-kind in the forum of labour were approved to support two events. Borough employees worked at the Polar Bear Plunge, for a contribution of services worth $7,650.37. They will also support the Sugaring Off Festival on Wellington Street from March 27 until March 29, at a cost of $12,211.
