Electronic designers wanted

Maison des arts de Laval is calling on virtual artists or electronic-designers to propose an integrated light project to be displayed on the interior of its premises.

The performing arts venue will make a white brick wall along its inner courtyard, with a dimension six metres wide by three metres high on the side of Teatro delle Muse, available to the professional e-artist who designs the winning art project.

Thanks to a City of Laval arts promotion grant, MDA will provide a lump sum of $10,000 for a turnkey project that covers copyright fees, materials and installation.

Artists who want to enter have to provide their curriculum vitae, statement of artistic intent, a description and sketch of their proposed work, an outline of the materials, technique and medium that they will use and a budget estimate. The artist will also have to demonstrate how their work can be maintained and able to endure a minimum of ten years.

The free flow and safety of visitors through the space is another important consideration that the winning design must grapple with.

Founded in 1986, Maison des arts de Laval is a major venue for many forms of performing art: visual arts, dance, music and theatre. Each year, some 50,000 people attend more than 200 shows there.

Entrants must submit their proposals before May 29. More information is available from city museologist Jasmine Colizza: j.colizza@ville.laval.qc.ca.
