Two armed robbers brandished a machete and tied
up the owner of a jewelry store at 5535 Laurentian
boulevard and fled with $150,000 worth of jewelry, Oct. 19.

According to Const. Nathalie Lorrain,
the pair had visited the store two days earlier on the pretext of making a purchase.

“They probably went there to case the
place, find out procedures and where the
jewelry was kept,” said the Laval police
spokeswoman. “They sequestered the
owner in a back room while they took all
the jewelry from the counters.”

“Witnesses who spotted them fleeing
the store sensed that something was
wrong, gave police a description of the
suspects permitting a police cruiser to
spot the getaway car a few minutes later,”
Const. Lorrain added. “Some of the jewelry—and the machete—was in the car, but
the suspects had fled.”

She said that both suspects were black
men. One was about 20-years-old, 1.8 m
tall and weighed 75 kg. He wore black
pants and a black vest over a white t-shirt,
a black cap with a white logo and black
gloves. The other, who carried the
machete, was about 25-years-old, 1.75 m
tall and weighed about 72 kg. He had black hair woven in dreadlocks and spoke French with a
Caribbean accent. He wore white pants, a black jacket and a grey tuque.

Const. Lorrain said that the getaway car was not
reported stolen.
