At 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, June 18), Chantel Saint-Marie, Laval’s interim city clerk will announce the results of yesterday’s vote on whether a referendum is needed to amend regulation L-11634.
Councillors voted in regulation L-12185 at their June 2 meeting. If it passes, the new bylaw will reduce city borrowing for construction work on the Val des Brises exchange via modifying the length of time and necessity of holding a financial reserve for these kinds of projects.
If 81 people who live in the zones to the east of the exchange sign the register, all Laval citizens would have to vote on the measure before it could pass. Holding such a referendum is so expensive, it is more likely that councillors will withdraw their amendment.
