Last Thursday morning, the new Pierrefonds-Roxboro Provigo Le Marché was unveiled to the public, an 11th opening for the company this year alone. Staff and head office personnel were joined by many Pierrefonds-Roxboro councillors as well as Pierrefonds–Dollard MP Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe and Carlos Leitão, Quebec’s Minister of Finance and MNA for Robert Baldwin.
The newly renovated store is also adding 60 new jobs as well as implementing a chef on the premises who can counsel shoppers, a newly renovated pharmacy, a more than 5,000 square foot area for the Joe Fresh clothing line as well as more local food from area growers with even more gluten free and Kosher food. The store will also be offering culinary classes for children and adults.
“We have been here for a longtime but this store did not always get the love it deserved,” said Provigo Le Marché vice-president André Fortier. “We will be using more organic products for our fruits and vegetables with many coming from Quebec growers.”
The store’s executive director, Stéphane Guenette, thanked the assembled, his staff and customers for their patience “during our renovations because there was less room for parking but now our store is bigger and better than ever.”
The new store is now more than 71,000 square feet in size with an expanded fresh produce area.
Guenette also spoke about the importance of giving back to the community and presented a $1,000 cheque to Marie-Josée Mastromonaco, coordinator of the Breakfast for Learning program that provides breakfast, snacks and lunch for children.
Leitão praised the new store and the new jobs associated with the expanded store. “This is an example of how investments can be made when there is confidence in Quebec,” said the province’s finance minister. “It is important to help our SMEs in the province and Provigo is a perfect example of this style of business because this new store will have links to the local economy through buying locally as well as adding jobs in the West Island.”
