Flood waters have receded, but the clean up of debris left behind will take weeks, as residents of the West Island communities of Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Dollard des Ormeaux trudge to the curb with water-soaked belongings and call their insurance companies, seeking compensation. A number of homes are without power but it’s a far cry from the thousands impacted as the storm’s fury was unleashed on Montreal, Lanaudière and the Montérégie. The storms that clobbered the area, passed communities west of Montreal island, spit on them, then stalled over the West Island and the South Shore, dumping up to 150 millimetres of rain in a few hours.

Quebec Security Minister Ian Lafrenière has appointed Anne-Marie Boisvert as the independent observer to oversee the investigation into allegations of racism at Montreal Police Station 39 in Montreal North, with the goal of verifying the investigation by Montreal police. She submit recommendations and “…if she identifies any irregularity or lack of cooperation from the SPVM, she will have to inform me without delay.”
