With only two weeks to go to meet match last year’s fundraising success of $1.2 million, the West Island Community Shares (WICS) team announced that the SAQ, Desjardins West Island Wine and Spirits Show to benefit was a huge success raising $40,000 for 38 local charities leaving them with $50,000 to go. Until March 31, The Tenaquip Foundation will match all donations to help reach the goal.

The 750 visitors were received by 45 volunteers and enjoyed wine, spirits and beer from a wide range of more than 20 SAQ vendors. La Serenata, La Maison Verte, Casa Mare and 40 Westt restaurants offered delicious bites for the lunch crowd. Costco and IGA offered wine and sliced deli meats and fine bread. A silent auction was a great way to add select bottles to any wine collection.

For a change of pace Les 3 Brasseurs brewer Daniel Ablenas was on hand to offer beer tasting for the first time.

One in five West Islanders turns to a local community group for help each year. West Island Community Shares provides crucial and recurrent funding to 38 West Island community groups that deliver essential services to residents in need. Since its inception, it has raised and distributed more than $9.7 million.
