As this winter hangs on, keeping Laval under a blanket of snow with ever present wind chills, the city is offering residents a chance to escape to somewhere warm with its contest Je gagne à aimer Laval that offers $2,500 in travel vouchers.
Applicants need only consult Laval’s website at www.concours.laval.ca to fill out a form and adhere to contest rules: must be a resident of Laval and over 18 and keep your fingers crossed for the March 12th drawing of the prize. The contest runs from now until Sunday, March 8, the same day that we change our clocks back one hour to prepare for the eventual return of spring.
Any Laval residents aged 10-35 can with a flair for the arts are invited to take part in the city’s ninth annual artistic contest with this year’s topic focusing on the ending of bullying and intimidation. Through writing, visual arts or performance, applicants have a chance to win more than $5,000 in prizes. The contest is open for two categories: professional and amateur artists.

As part of Laval’s upcoming 50th anniversary, a writing contest for the city’s youngest authors has been created with three levels of participants: aged 6-12, 13-17 and for adults. Scribes need to present either a short novel, theatre piece or movie script.
There will be nine winners in all, three in each category, with their work being presented live, read or viewed at the grand soiree taking place Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9 at the Salle des Muses de la Maison des Arts de Laval.
