Laval gears up to kick off 50th anniversary celebrations

Comedian Philippe Bond will serve as the official host to Laval’s 2015 50th anniversary of the City of Laval.

Citizens can expect more than a hundred events spread over dozens of themes in the year long celebrations that will launch on New Year’s Eve from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. at Laval Centropolis, where there will be a major fireworks display and a wide-ranging musical entertainment show.
The complete program of celebrations was unveiled at a luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 25 with close to 500 community organization leaders and members of the Laval business community in attendance. The organizing committee has approved more than 100 events with subsidies awarded from the budget of approximately $1 million.

The New Year’s Eve celebrations hosted by Geneviève Borne at the Centropolis will include musical talent such as the Porn Flakes, Alex Nevsky, Radio Radio, DJ Champion, Rémi Chassé, Loco Locass, Lulu Hughes, Yann Perreau and Too Many Cooks.

Ste. Rose’s annual white festivities have exploded to three other locations this winter holding 2015 Laval en Blanc celebrations. Additional locations for these festivities will be Parc des Prairies, Centre de La Nature and Centropolis.

The Laval symphony orchestra will perform six concerts between June and August beginning on June 4.

Aug. 6, marks the official 50th birthday of Laval when the city was formed from a cluster of towns and villages on Île Jésus in 1965.

Centropolis will be the main staging area for the birthday celebration as well as the 24 presentations of the multimedia show displayed against a backdrop of a 200 foot long and 60 foot high water fall.
