By Rhonda Massad

Laval public transit users will be paying more for their commute starting in the new year. With the 2015 budget released last week the most commuters will experience a three percent increase in fares while the budget increased by two percent to $131 million.

As of Jan. 1, the price of a standard Société de transport de Laval (STL) monthly pass will rise from $86.50 to $89, students will pay two dollars more ($69 to $71), and finally the reduced rate will retail for $53.50 when it is currently $52. The book of eight tickets will rise to $21.50 from $20.75 while the reduced rate rises to $15.25 from $14.75.

The price of a single fare will remain unchanged $3.25 for a single use. As of May 1, 2014 seniors over the age of 65 travel the entire Laval bus network for free when carrying an STL Horizon 65+ pass.
