Going back the last four decades, St. Lazare resident Peter Angrove has always had a close association with the local West Island music scene. He has worked as a lighting technician, band manager and even though he admits “he cannot carry a tune”, that has not stopped him from organizing a fundraiser for the last nine years. Bands for Baskets bring together local artists to raise money for the Lakeshore Kiwanis Foundation who deliver baskets to the less fortunate from Lachine all the way to Rigaud.

The idea to help others through music came nine years ago when Angrove thought “I know all of these bands, what can I do to help others at Christmas time?”

The event raises about $3,500 every year at this year’s lineup includes the Sas Harris Band, Derek Falls and The Mother Jones Band as well as Juno nominated artist Carolyn Fe Blues Collective.

On site, calendars are sold that help defray administrative costs, allowing for 100 percent of all funds raised “to help those in need because requests are at an all time high, especially for single parent families,” Angrove said.

Bands for Baskets takes place on Saturday, Dec. 2 starting at 2 p.m. at Calistoga Grill, located on 235 St. Jean’s Boulevard in Pointe Claire. For tickets and band line up schedule, go online at www.bandsforbaskets.com.
