At a press conference held last Saturday, Pierrefonds-Roxboro Mayor Dimitrios (Jim) Beis announced that the borough will undertake the necessary bureaucratic steps to honour Ovide T. Baciu, the last-ever mayor of Roxboro, who passed away recently.

Baciu, who served the population of Roxboro from 1990 until the forced municipal mergers of 2002, was able to attend the recent centennial anniversary celebrations for the former city and was looking forward to last weekend’s Roxboro Day, an event he had always attended and held dear to his heart but passed away before the special day.

“On behalf of the Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough Council, I wish that the memory of Mr. Ovide T. Baciu, last mayor of the City of Roxboro, will perpetuate,” said Beis. “A testimony of gratitude to a generous and committed mayor who has devoted many years to his community and to the well-being of citizens. He was authentic and close to the heart of the people of Roxboro.”

The borough will rename the Roxboro Park chalet to honour the memory of the beloved mayor.

The borough has begun the necessary paperwork needed to at the Division du patrimoine of Ville de Montréal and must adhere to the rule that a calendar year pass before a building can be named to honour someone who has passed away.
