Major accidents can occur, even at low speeds

A young couple in their early 20s avoided serious injury last Sunday, March 16, during the afternoon, when driving on St. Charles North towards the Highway 40 overpass near Brunswick Boulevard in Kirkland.

A 20-year-old male was driving a black Honda and when moving lanes, neglected to signal or check his blind spot. This caused the front of the Honda to strike the couple driving their car.

The couple’s red vehicle began to fish tail before sliding north-east over the median, a snow bank and then crashing into a light standard.

Police and emergency personnel were quickly on scene and attributed the fact that injuries were minimal because all three drivers were wearing their seat belts.

Officers on the scene noted that both drivers were going no more than 60 km/h and that even at lower speeds, accidents can cause serious injuries.

It is important, when driving, to always use rear and side view mirrors for extra vision, especially when merging into other traffic officers noted.
