Forum Jeunesse Laval, a non-partisan organization set up to encourage young people to participate in community affairs, reached out for new members last week.

The forum tackles important subjects such as accessible youth housing, inclusion, academic success and employment, prevention of violence and drug abuse and promotes healthy lifestyles.

The 2000 Quebec Youth Summit spurred the foundation of the youth forum. Each year, an independent committee recruits 13-16 new members from a wide range of candidates for a two-year mandate.

The forum manages a budget of more than $500,000 in collaboration with the Laval regional government. It decides how to allocate the money to local and regional projects that will improve young Laval residents’ quality of life.

Applicants must be between 15-35 years of age, reside in Laval (or have significant involvement in the region) and be available for monthly meetings as well as special-project committee meetings.

A French-only application is available at www.forumjeunesselaval.qc.ca. Applicants must submit it together with their curriculum vitae, a letter of intent and, if possible, a reference letter, no later than May 16.
