Sept. 25 was the sixth year of the Arbor Day Centre health and social services centers (CSSS) of Laval that was held at CPE La Cachette, located at the rear of the Hospital de la Cité de la Santé.
Arbor Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of living in a healthy environment to maintain good health. To promote this, trees were planted by children and their parents who attended the event.
“The CSSS is of course the responsibility to provide health care and quality social services to Laval and Laval. However, the CSSS de Laval is also concerned with conditions that promote their health and, therefore, we are committed to preventing disease and promoting healthy lifestyles,” Sylvie Bourassa, Deputy Director General of the CSSS of Laval said according to the press release stated. “We believe that a healthy environment is essential to good health. That is why we believe that a plant contributes significantly to combine healthy environment and healthy tree.”
This annual event was held in a festive atmosphere with activities. In early September, a recipe contest was launched for the entire staff, physicians and volunteers of the CSSS of Laval. Five were selected among the participants and each of the finalists won a tree. Then, between September 18-23 a quiz about the benefits of urban trees was distributed, giving each participant a chance to win a tree.
The presentation ended with the announcement of the winner of the recipe contest and planting trees on the grounds of the CPE La Cachette.
Every year, the CSSS of Laval wants to raise awareness to all Laval residents to the importance of living in a green environment to stay healthy.
To do this, the CSSS offered to community organizations that trees will be planted in their respective field.
The organizers of the Arbor Day CSSS Laval hope that these actions will have an effect with several other Laval public and private organizations so that a “green city” is possible.
