The whole world got to watch Laval’s
own welterweight champ Antonin
Décarie defeat previously unbeaten Alex
Perez of Newark, New Jersey, in a pivotal
boxing match that was broadcast on the
Home Box Office cable channel, Sept. 30.

The 29-year-old Décarie couldn’t have
picked a better time to excel, achieving
newfound fame during the first HBO-televised match in his seven-year professional boxing career.

The event was
broadcast from the MGM Grand at
Foxwoods Resort and Casino, in
Mashantucket, Connecticut.

With 25 seconds remaining in the sixth
round, referee Danny Schiavone stopped
the bout after Décarie dropped the taller
27-year-old Perez with a powerful right
cross punch.

Décarie’s record now stands at 27 wins—eight of them knockouts—and one loss.
Perez’ record, with his first loss, dropped
to 16-1, with nine knockouts.
