For the sixth time since 1998, the last being 2010, the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro will be welcoming the RCMP Musical Ride when the iconic red serged officers and their equine partners will dazzle West Islanders in a series of free shows taking place at the end of September.
Last Thursday, Mayor Dimitros Jim Beis and George Springate, former John Abbott College professor, professional athlete, citizenship judge and citizen, were on hand to hold a press conference that featured some honoured guests, RCMP Ride in training officers Hugues Dionne and Tiffany Donnelly who were present with their partners, Brent and Rocamo.
Thousands of elementary and high school aged students, 9,000 coming from the Lester B. Pearson School Board alone, will be bused to see the roughly hour long event that began its first ride in 1888. The Musical Ride performs about 100 shows throughout the year.
“The RCMP Musical Ride is a positive role model for all young people,” Beis told the assembled. “They always inspire strength and courage.”
“Canada and the RCMP are truly one,” said Springate. “Show anyone anywhere in the world our red maple leaf flag and people will say ‘Canada’.
“Show them a picture of a woman or man wearing red serge jacket and a Stetson atop a beautiful black horse and will again say ‘Canada’, Springate said.
The RCMP Musical Ride will be performing for elementary and school-aged children on Thursday, Sept. 25 and Friday, Sept. 26. Shows open to the public will be Saturday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.
All performances are free but donations for the Quebec Society for Disabled Children would be greatly appreciated. The almost hour long show will take place at a temporary 10,000 seating stadium right beside the Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough Hall at 13,665 Pierrefonds Boulevard.
