Driver was likely going 110 km/h on St. Charles overpass

By the time the young male driver careened over the St. Charles overpass heading north towards Pierrefonds and saw a number of cars waiting for the lights at Brunswick to turn green, it was too late for him to get control of his vehicle and stop.
It was a little before midday on a Thursday in August when the driver, going at what police officers on the scene believed to be about 110 km/h, jammed on his brakes, leaving a more than 100 foot skid mark in the road before colliding with the parked vehicles.
In an effort to avoid a head on collision, the driver tried to get into the right hand lane but instead wound up driving between two lanes, grinding through vehicles on both sides.
There was damage to a total of four vehicles with some of the drivers sustaining light injuries. In one case, a female driver was taken to hospital with minor neck injuries.
Officers on the scene told The Suburban that thankfully there were no major injuries but high speed was a factor in the pile up and now that school has returned for students of all ages and summer vacations are over, motorists need to be more cautious on the roads.
