Going outside has long been recognized as beneficial to our health and researchers at McGill University have discovered that the longer one spends with nature, the more significant and lasting are the health benefits.
But even a few minutes in a park is enough to see positive effects on the body and mind.
Co-lead author McGill postdoctoral researcher Mar Estarellas says that stress is reduced and our emotions are better regulated but that there is a whole “spectrum” of levels of exposure to nature: Even looking at a picture of nature has benefits.
She and her team reviewed 108 studies involving brain imaging conducted during the past 20 years.
