Laval police dossier: More grow ops; seizure suspected in crash

Two children, aged 15 and 8, stayed out of sight after two youths broke into their home on Monnier Street, Nov. 1.
“Their father was away on a business trip and their mother had gone out for a couple of minutes to shop for groceries,” Const. Franco di Genova told The Suburban in an interview.
“At 8 p.m., the two kids saw two young men trying to enter their house through a patio door and ran to separate hiding spots,” he recounted. “The older one grabbed a cordless phone and called 911 and stayed online with the 911 operator.”
“The operator asked him ‘Where is your little brother?’” Const. di Genova continued. “’I have no idea’ was the whispered reply.”
“Police cars were dispatched and arrested two 16-year-old suspects. As minors, they will face justice at Laval youth court.”
“The mother returned soon afterward,” he concluded. “The kids are fine, just a little shaken up by the experience.”
More hydroponic marijuana
After receiving a complaint about unsavory individuals coming and going at odd hours, Laval’s drug and morality squad began to investigate a residence located at 75 Bellerose.
On Nov. 20, they obtained a warrant, and searched the premises.
“They found 743 marijuana plants one to three feet tall, worth $74,000 as well as another 495 plants up to one foot tall,” reported Const. di Genova, “as well as growing lights and hydroponic equipment.”
“Everything was seized and detectives have questioned the owner of the house.”
Single-driver smashup
On Nov. 24, a 48-year-old man lost control of his car near 42 Concorde West in Laval, crashing into two parked cars.
“No one was in the parked cars,” reassured Const. di Genova. “The driver was taken to hospital and treated for nose and leg fractures as well as cranial contusions. Investigators believe that the man might have had a seizure and will follow up with physicians.”
