American retail giant Target started its second job fair last week to fill positions at its new stores in St. Dorothée and Centre Laval.
The first recruitment of staff began last month at the Laval Hilton hotel to fill several leadership positions at the two new stores.
The second job fair started on June 12 and will end tomorrow to hire more staff for the store, such as cashiers, sales floor associates, logisticians, overnight associates and human resources personnel.
At the job fair, there will be four candidates interviewed per position.
“The stores are expected to open in early fall, before September,” Target Canada spokesperson Sébastien Bouchard said. “People who will be hired will start their intense training in July.”
While Bouchard claimed that construction on both stores has been going well, some older stores involved more renovation and rebuilding, like the one in Centre Laval. Target Canada is investing $11-12 million per store on renovations alone.
There are currently 48 Target stores open in Canada, and Bouchard expects to have 124 open by the end of the year—25 of them in Quebec.
“The response has been great,” Bouchard said. “Already people have been applying online, and the turn outs at the job fairs are great.”
Target hopes to hire about 200 employees per store to ensure that there is always help around at each department if needed.
“The main thing we want to eliminate is waiting at the cash,” Bouchard said. “This is why everyone who is hired is trained at almost every position, so that anyone can go at cash and move around elsewhere to help everyone.”
Bouchard explained that guest experience is Target’s number one concern.
“We don’t want this old mentality of not caring,” he said. “We really want our employees to make clients number one, service is the key element.”
“So far everything is good,” Bouchard said. “We’re looking forward to opening in Quebec.”
