Dashing through the snow and frolicking in the cold have never been as fun as at Laval des Rapides’ Parc des Prairies. A clutch of new—and free—activities are now on offer, which promise to treat even the grouchiest winter-hater to a great time.

In addition to the 4.2 km of ski trails that criss-cross the park, you can trek through the park with snowshoes or on foot. Several species of birds can be spotted throughout the park, including spectacular snowy owls and crimson cardinals.

Visitors can borrow—at no cost—snowshoes, ice skates and crazy carpets. What better way to take advantage of the exterior ice rink or the natural snow hill! All the accessories needed for a day of fun in the snow are available at the municipal chalet, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on weekends, weather permitting.

February will get your booty a-shaking on the rink! Every day, from 1-4 p.m., ambient music will set the mood for skaters, who will be offered free hot chocolate to keep them warm while they glide about. Rock and Roll aficionados will welcome the opportunity to skate to the beat, during the Feb. 8 Rock and Roll special. Feb. 22 will be dedicated to world music.

Parc des Prairies is located at 5 du Crochet, in Laval des Rapides. Parking is available, on 15th Ave. and on des Prairies. For more information, call [450] 662-4902.
