A group of Montreal lawyers has filed a legal challenge to the city of Montreal’s new bylaw which penalizes anyone who verbally insults a police officer, claiming that the law violates people’s fundamental rights to freedom of expression and that the hefty fines infringe on the right to protection against cruel and unusual punishment.
