When work gets stressful, the standard advice is: exercise more, eat better, sleep more and cut back on unhealthy habits.
Data over collected over 10 years from 2,871 Canadian workers has revealed that five health-related behaviours outside work, can weaken the relationship between work stress and general health.
Some behaviours appeared to offer real stress-specific protection.
Others are linked to health overall, but don’t the buffer the effects of work.
Sleep quality stands out and nutrition really matters but exercise does not buffer the health effects of work stress.
