Game one of the Stanley Cup Playoff series involving the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning ended in 4-3 overtime win. Juraj Slafkovsky has become the first Habs player ever to notch three power-play goals in a playoff game, the last one in overtime, to give the Canadiens the win. Next game tomorrow night.

Two men are recovering from gunshot wounds picked up in downtown Montreal, in a fight that involved several people on Guy near Sainte Catherine.

Four regions of Quebec are under a close flood watch—Quebec City, Argenteuil, Outaouais and Lanaudière—with high water, bridge closures, and swollen waterways already the reality.

A Santé Québec survey has revealed that Lakeshore General Hospital holds top spot for the longest wait times: an average of 30 hours and 54 minutes lying on a stretcher awaiting assessment, nearly double the provincial average of 16 hours and 46 minutes. Santé Québec says that there were 108,000+ fewer visits to the emergency room last year. Patients’ rights advocate Paul Brunet says that this is worrying and indicates that access to primary care is not improving.

In NDG, plans are moving ahead to install 200 parking meters on Sherbrooke before summer, with hundreds more on side streets, in a project that will touch Sherbrooke West between Grand and Hampton and Wilson to the border with Montreal West. Some residents say that it is going to make it harder to park near their homes and result in neighbors’ in conflict over parking spots.

Gas prices are down today in Montreal and across Canada, with the temporary elimination of the federal excise tax, but Quebec’s premier is still deciding whether the province will follow suit.
