The director of the Queen Elizabeth Family Medicine Group in NDG, Doctor Mark Roper, says that five family doctors of the 25 employed there are so outraged by Bill 2 that they have applied to work outside of Quebec, claiming that the law is punitive that threatens to claw back their pay.

The Quebec Superior court will hear an appeal next week from the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec, which is seeking a temporary stay of Bill 2, based on its most restrictive aspects; fundamental rights and freedoms.

The Legault government has passed Bill 94, which toughens the secularism law in the Quebec school system. It will force students and staff to attend school with their faces uncovered, end special menus adapted to religious restrictions, disallow absences for staff for religious celebrations not included in the school calendar. A bill to end secularism in subsidized daycare services will follow soon.

The owner of a Montreal driving school, two ex-employees of the SAAQ and three others have been charged in a scheme to fraudulently provide driver’s permits.

Montrealers who use public transit can expect weeks of disruption, following a ruling from the Quebec labour tribunal that gives permission to transit maintenance workers to strike through most of next month.

The Sûreté du Québec’s Integrated Human Trafficking Task Force has arrested 37-year-old Dave-Cash Paul of Sainte Julienne for alleged human trafficking and sexual exploitation offences dating back 18+ years. Officers didn’t have to look far to find him, as he was already in jail in the St. Jérôme detention centre, awaiting sentencing in a separate sexual exploitation case.

Montreal police have charged 39-year-old Frédéric Biron Carmel of Parc Extension with a number of offences following the burning of an Israeli flag in front of Hampstead city hall this week. He is free from custody on condition he honour a 10 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew, stay at least 500 meters away from Hampstead town hall and not use any social media.

Doctor Rikuta Hamaya…instructor in medicine at the Brigham Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School…says that even if you don’t walk the 10 thousands steps a day threshold to maintain good health, you are still doing ok. Doctor Sean Heffron…assistant professor of medicine at New York University Langone Health…says that 7,000 steps a day is a good objective if you are looking to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, type 2 diabetes, cancer, depressive symptoms, and premature death. A study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine says older women (average age 71) who walked 4,000 steps one or two days a week have a 26% lower risk of death from all causes and a 27% lower risk of death from a cardiovascular disease.
