A study has revealed the longer that one commutes to work and back, the more it can affect mental health because of the personal time lost. Lead author, Dr. Annie Barreck, says that the more time people spend commuting, the more likely they are to experience work-family conflict and psychological distress, because long commutes interfere with work-life balance and time with loved ones. The study has also learned that how people commute is important and says that while public transportation is crucial, it is often more stressful than using a motor vehicle.
