LaSalle borough councillors approved many projects at their December 8 meeting.
Prior to those motions being passed, residents asked questions about borough councillor pay scales, taxes, 31 lost parking spots on Dollard Street because the owner of 2525 Dollard blocked their lot, transit-oriented developments and the need for temporary shelters (tempos) in the borough.
“Our rule encourages local entrepreneurs to clear the snow,” said LaSalle borough mayor Manon Barbe. “Even companies can’t have tempos.”
The Chevrolet Buick dealer at 8000 Newman will be modifying their premises, although the motion passed did not specify what changes are being considered.
The homes at 2080 Hébert and 162 Strathrye can be expanded and renovated as per plans provided to the local urban planning committee. Both are located on corner lots.
Councillors approved the construction of a duplex on Stirling Avenue.
They also approved the demolition of two commercial buildings: the funeral home at 8794 Centrale, and the old pizza place and dépanneur at 1489-1491 Shevchenko. Both locations will house multi-unit residential buildings. Three residential buildings will go up on Centrale Street, while two buildings will go up on Shevchenko.
The old Caisse Populaire building at 99 Lafleur seems to have been sold. LaSalle borough councillors authorized the parking lot to be redone so that it holds only 9 spots instead of 17. A public consultation will be held soon.
