Dollard des Ormeaux’ Carol Ketelson realized her first trip to Italy 14 years ago was to change her life.
Ketelson organized medical conferences for doctors, and found herself in Ravello, a town, and commune situated above the Amalfi Coast in the province of Salerno, Campania, southern Italy, with approximately 2,500 inhabitants.
“I met Chiara Lima at the Palazzo Sasso hotel, where she worked as the reservation manager. We became friends, and she introduced me to her mother, Mamma Agata, who, together, offered a cooking day experience in the region,” Ketelson told The Suburban.
Mamma Agata is a famous chef in Italy who operates a cooking school with Lima, in the Amalfi coast. Mamma Agata has cooked for some of the most famous celebrities and governmental officials on the globe including cooking for both Italian Heads of State and American celebrities that frequented Ravello in the 1950s and 60s, such as Humphrey Bogart, Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Kennedy.
Their first cookbook won second to Jamie Oliver at the Paris Gourmand Cookbook Awards.
Ketelson created Delectable Destinations in 2011, a unique culinary travel tour that fulfills dreams and introduces new passions for individuals far, and wide. Her tailor-made, culinary travel itineraries offer an immersion in local, rich traditions that is surrounded with breathtaking beauty, intoxicating scents and tastes and enchanting experiences.
The tours are open to groups of four with a maximum of seven people. Ketelson works with local groups to produce a first class experience for her travelers. “I want to assure that every aspect of their trip is perfect, right down to the smallest detail,” added Ketelson.
“I will take part in my third trip with Delectable Destinations. Ketelson is so organized, and has our days are filled with magical impressions. She offers a trip of a lifetime and I feel like it is better than winning the lottery,” said Baie d’Urfe resident, Stella Patneaude.
Delectable Destinations offers spring and fall trips which include Paris, France, Tuscan and the Amalfi coast of Ravello.
“I knew I had a new calling after my first trip to Ravello in 2000. Everyone has to come here,” said a glowing Ketelson.
