It was hard to find eligible voters in Chomedey who didn’t cast their ballot for Guy Ouellette on election night, April 7.
Nearly three-quarters of the riding’s residents had given the Laval Liberal caucus leader their confidence with 73.26 per cent of the vote, as The Suburban went to press.
“All Quebecers were involved in re-electing the Liberals in Chomedey,” Ouellette told his enthusiastic election workers, on accepting his victory in the contest. “Greek, Armenian, Portuguese, Arabic, French Canadian and many other groups.”
Coalition pour l’avenir du Québec candidate Carlie Dejoie opponent placed second, with 11.15 per cent of the vote, barely edging out the Parti québécois’ candidate Jean Cooke, who trailed in third place with 10.55 per cent.
Québec solidaire candidate Lise-Anne Rhéaume earned 2.78 per cent of the vote, while Brendan Edge received just 0.8 per cent.
Ouellette demurred when his supporters cried out for a cabinet office for him, when he returns to take his seat in the National Assembly in Quebec City.
“No, no,” he admonished them. “What is important is that we have elected a Quebec Liberal Party government today led by Dr. Philippe Couillard whom, you will find, is an excellent leader.”
