The city of Beaconsfield’s urban planning director, Denis Chabot, was assaulted last October in the parking lot of the Summerlea Golf Club and last week, SQ officer Peter De Castris and three other suspects were arrested in connection with the attack.
Following the arrest, De Castris was placed on suspension but is still receiving pay and after his arrest, was released on bail.
The SQ officer had purchased a home in Beaconsfield and had completed some renovations to the edifice but was informed by the city council that certain requested modifications were denied at an October 2012 council meeting. A short time after the request was denied, Chabot was beaten up in the parking lot.
A report in The Gazette was noted that De Castris and former Montreal Mayor Michael Applebaum were shareholders in a numbered company and that the SQ officer’s mortgage for half a million dollars was obtained through Adrien Dubois who is a member of the notorious Dubois Gang.
After news broke of the arrest, the city of Beaconsfield released a statement noting that “to allow for the proper investigation of this matter, the city will continue to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and will not issue comments on the file.”
