Energie en Corps, an Île Bizard-based fitness organization, is combining dancing with donating this Saturday when they host a Zumba Party to raise funds for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. While it might sound like the name for a cocktail, Zumba is actually the latest dance craze to sweep the country. This Colombian fitness program, which combines aerobics and hip hop dance, has exploded in popularity over the past few years.
With up to 300 people set to take to the dance studio in the Centre Socio-Culturel on Île Bizard to raise funds, the event promises to be a swinging occasion for a good cause. Rozel Gonzales, owner of Energie en Corps commented “We held a fundraising event for the Society last year and we got around 100 people.
Rozel’s interest in raising funds for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society stems from the story of her eight-year-old son Luka, who at the age of five was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma. Luka has now been in remission for two years but Rozel has continued to be actively involved in fundraising for the 100,000 people across Canada who are affected by blood cancer.
The event starts at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 at the Centre Socio-Culturel, 490, Montée de l’Église, L’Île Bizard. Tickets for the event are limited to 300 spaces, and are available on the door for $25. For more information visit www.energieencorps.comn
