Yet another city councillor has signaled her intention to bow out of municipal politics.
Jocelyne Guertin, member of Laval’s executive committee and city councillor for Souvenir-Labelle district has announced that she will not be seeking re-election on Nov. 3.
Following testimony before the Charbonneau Commission in June, Guertin admitted to having taken part in a system of nominees that was alleged to have illegally financed former Mayor Gilles Vaillancourt’s political party.
Guertin, who was first elected to office in 1993, was unavailable to make a comment to The Suburban.
The announcement of her departure came after Sylvie Clermont’s resignation, May 30 from her position as city councillor for St. Vincent de Paul district. Clermon cited health as the reason for her withdrawal from public life.
Longtime Laval councillors Benoît Fradet (Renaud) and Basile Angelopoulos (Chomedey) had previously announced they do not plan to seek re-election, come November. Both stated that they wanted to focus more on their personal lives.
