Ward quits politics

After serving for five terms, longtime Pierrefonds-Roxboro councillor calls it a day

By Kevin Woodhouse

Longtime Pierrefonds-Roxboro councillor Bertrand Ward, who has served since 1989, will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming November election and like his former boss Mayor Monique Worth, will also be stepping down from politics after releasing a press communique last week.

“I really enjoyed my work, and now, after much consideration, I have decided not to seek another term next Nov. 3,” explained Ward. “Municipal politics are very demanding and requires sacrifice and dedication as well as work-life balance. I warmly thank my family members for their understanding and support.”

Ward has served as both chair and member of the borough’s finance and sports and leisure committees for more than a decade and in the city of Montreal, served as chairman of the Finance and Administration Committee and Human Capital Committee.

For Ward, serving on the central city’s committees “was a great experience and so was the one when I served as a member of the Audit Committee and Transportation Committee.”

“Municipal politics are the one closest to people, and for me, as for the citizens, there are two words that I have always considered to be very important: ‘taxes and services’”, cited Ward. “Despite budget cuts and constraints we had to face, we were able to achieve a financial balance. A rigorous exercise was conducted every year by a responsible and concerned team dedicated to the citizen’s quality of life, supported by employees attentive to citizen’s needs and services.”

Like Worth, Ward was committed to seeing the 440 project see the light of day and hopes that the eventual construction of the urban boulevard “will see the light of day eventually.”

Ward concluded with his thanks to the entire team of ” municipal employees for their dedication and I sincerely thank the citizens of Pierrefonds-Roxboro who trusted me and supported me during my six consecutive terms.”
