The Union of Quebec Municipalities recently awarded the city of Vaudreuil-Dorion an Ovation Award for the city’s Mozaik Parade, an inclusive event that brings the entire community together. The city won in the Citizens’ Approach category, which was amazing news for Vaudreuil-Dorion who held the successful parade as a closing event for the Circus weekend.
“We’re very proud of the award as we were recognized for an event that strives to bring everyone together, ” said Michel Vallée, director of arts and culture at the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion. “We have almost 1,000 participants in this year’s event and 25,000 spectators line the 2.5 km parade route to cheer them on.”
The parade had over 20 floats that represented all citizens of Vaudreuil-Dorion, many of whom spent more than five months preparing the props, costumes and choreography for their float, all to culminate in the June 23 event that finishes with the city’s fireworks display.
Regional artists worked with the various groups to bring their own creative tableaus to life, helping to form bonds of friendship as neighbour helps neighbour create a visual spectacle. “It brings the community together,” Vallée told The Suburban. “Citizens have a chance to create their own pride and people learn to work together so that our community becomes stronger.”
