In last night’s Quebec party leaders televised debate, CAQ leader Christine Fréchette tried to put space between herself and the latest controversy: cost overruns unveiled in a Radio-Canada report which says that the cost of an information technology project at Santé Québec, has ballooned from a forecast of $96 million to about $1 billion, saying, “I am not Francois Legeault.”
Her opponents were determined to not let that happen; Fréchette kicked off the Quebec election campaign’s first televised debate on Tuesday by telling Quebecers: “I am not François Legault.”
Parti Québécois leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon says that Fréchette is the exact image of the CAQ’s track record.
In a head-to-head with Conservative leader Éric Duhaime, Plamondon touted that he had “the best economic team.”
Liberal leader Milliard urged Quebecers to recognize his party as a party with a strong economic platform that could lead the way past U.S. tariffs while working closely with Canada.
A second leaders’ debate will take place Wednesday.
The mayors of Montreal and Longueuil say that all party leaders must deal with infrastructure spending during the campaign, with Longueuil Mayor Catherine Fournier saying that “…cities are facing a major financial wall. We have to invest more than ever in our basic infrastructures.”
