A study published in Clinical Nutrition discusses the results of research into fasting for health.
Are there benefits?
Does eating during an eight-hour window, then fasting for the rest of the day produce long term weight loss?
Participants who were overweight or obese, between the ages of 30-60 years, followed one of four intermittent fasting eating patterns for 12 weeks.
Their eating patterns involved one of the following;
• Eating during an 8-hour window that began before 10 a.m.;
• Eating during an 8-hour window that began after 1 p.m.;
• Eating during an 8-hour window of each participant’s choice; and
• Eating during their usual mealtimes rather than a specific window
The researchers have determined that after one year, those who ate during an eight-hour window and began before 10 a.m. or after 1 p.m. are more likely to maintain weight loss, compared with the group that ate during their usual mealtimes.
