Christine Fréchette has been chosen as new as the CAQ and will sworn in on May 5 as Quebec’s 33rd premier. Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferradahas congratulated the premier-elect and “…[looks] forward to meeting with her to advance the priorities of Montrealers and will always be ready to work closely with the government to improve the quality of life of its citizens.” Prime Minister Carney is “…ready to begin” working to create more economic opportunity and prosperity for all Quebecers.” Bloc Leader Blanchet says that the new Premier “…can count on the Bloc Québécois’ voice to represent the consensus of the National Assembly of Quebec within and before the Parliament of Canada. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre offers his “….Félicitations à Frechette, qui deviendra la nouvelle première ministre du Québec”, and“ that he is ”…prêt à collaborer avec vous sur des solutions pour remettre plus d’argent dans le portefeuille des familles québécoises.”

As spring claims the snow in Montreal, piles of garbage, debris and dirt that have been buried for months are being exposed and city workers have begun the task of removing the debris created by homeless encampments and the general population. Luis Miranda, Montreal’s executive committee member responsible for cleanliness, says that the issue isn’t confined to one neighbourhood—crews will work in all boroughs.
