A 13-year-old Ottawa girl, strangled by her clothing as she hung from a chairlift she was attempting to dismount at the Centre Vorlage in western Quebec last week, has died.

Charles Millard, 46, the acclaimed leader of the Quebec Liberal party, was welcomed by a boisterous crowd in Trois Rivières yesterday, after no other candidates stepped forward by Friday’s deadline.

Four Quebecers died on Saturday in separate snowmobile accidents: on Gage Road, in Stanbridge East, in the Eastern Townships; in St. David de Falardeau, where two of three snowmobilers who went into the water in the Saguenay–Lac St. Jean region perished; and in Hemmingford and Mont Carmel, where a snow machine failed to stop and was hit by a pickup truck.
