Research released this morning has revealed that some types of exercise can lower your risk of dying prematurely. A study in the journal BMJ Medicine suggests that a mix of exercises is best, to delay the trip to the next life. Researchers followed 111,000+ men and women as they walked, jogged, ran, cycled, engaged in swimming, rowing, tennis, squash, racquetball, weight training, yoga, mowing the lawn, gardening, planting flowers and even walking upstairs. Walking has the lowest risk of early death. People who engaged in the widest range of activities had a 19% lower risk of death from any cause. Swimming and cycling reduced risk by 4%; tennis and squash by 15%; rowing 14%; weightlifting and running, 13%. People with higher physical activity levels are less likely to have early deaths contributers (high blood pressure and high cholesterol. And people who carry less weight, drank less alcohol, socialized more and ate healthier, did the best.
