Students step up to aid Quebec Breast Cancer

Beaconsfield High School’s gymnasium was turned into a barber shop Wednesday, Oct. 29, as four students took the pledge to Shave to Save to aid the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
Grade 8 students Danika Watt, Kayla-Hynes, Lukas Carlsson-Hayes, and Dario Kubec, with assists from Guilia Simonetto, and vice-principal, Adam Lambert, collectively raised $12,000.
“It was impressive how the money was raised. A West Island Company donated $1,000 for one student, and another collected their portion via a raffle. The event this year was dedicated to teacher Linda Thomas,” said support staff representative, Nancy Dubuc.
“I am proud to have participated in a fundraiser that is done for such a great cause. I was impressed by the generosity of people who donated. Everyone knows at least one person who has been touched by cancer of some sort and it is time to put an end to it,” Danika Watt told The Suburban.
The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation is a registered charitable organization established in 1994 on the initiative of Pam McLernon.
Its original name was the Montreal Breast Cancer Foundation. Initially, the foundation’s objectives were to provide assistance to women with breast cancer and to support medical research on the disease.
The mission still encompasses those original goals, but has gradually expanded to include activities focused on breast health awareness and education.
