City responds to Anthian intelligent parking proposal

www.arialview.ca

Mr. Anthian had already submitted his project a few months ago, and the experts’ opinion convinced us to turn it down. The resolution he submitted raises no new elements. His proposal cannot be implemented, as it would be greatly detrimental to the maintenance and cleaning of our streets as well as to snow removal. That opinion is based on the expertise and experience of municipal public works experts. Elected councillors would certainly take that into account should they have to vote on the issue.

In addition, the legal opinion obtained by Mr. Anthian is based largely on a by-law which no longer applies because it was repealed in 2008. His actions therefore lack any credibility. As far as traffic and snow removal are concerned, improvisation and approximations are simply unacceptable.

The vast majority of citizens demand that streets be cleaned and snow removed as fast and efficiently as possible. That is what we want to deliver to them, and it is what we committed to during the election campaign. That is why the city is carrying out a thorough analysis of its snow removal methods. The objective of efficiency gains is pursued chiefly through the implementation of lean management principles.
