Mille Îles’ representative in Quebec City rose to speak on the first day of the provincial parliament’s latest session, Feb. 13.
Former Laval School Commission chair Francine Charbonneau underscored the importance of education to the future of Quebec.
“This week is very important to Quebec’s school system,” she noted. “Every region celebrated Hooked on School days. Gestures, thoughtfulness, words and encouragement—these are all things that can make a difference in the eyes of those who need steadfast support in order to persevere in their academic career.”
“It’s inspiring to see young people, their parents, teachers, professionals, principals and support staff mobilize and work together to stem [Quebec’s] dropout rate,” Charbonneau observed. “Every dropout is one dropout too many.”
She acknowledged all the people throughout Quebec who organized Hooked on School activities.
“Education must be a lever for youth: that’s why it’s important to act, to keep supporting and motivating them,” Charbonneau said. “I thank those who took initiatives to encourage our youth to continue to pursue their studies, because fighting the dropout rate is a day-in, day-out battle.”
“Education is the key to the Quebec’s future,” she concluded, “so it must be—and remain—a priority.
