All loud and clear and visible

Dollard des Ormeaux resident, Erwin Schwartz is vying for a chair in city council, for his third attempt, in representing District 3 in the upcoming municipal elections.

Schwartz believes that these are the lowest level of elections which requires local interests. He was short of a seat, four years ago, by 12 votes.

Schwartz has lived in the municipality since 1980. He has had a local business in the same time period. He believes his business background is an important component in understanding the needs of the community.

“There is a moral obligation to live in the district in which you are representing. There is more to it then opportunity of collecting a paycheck” said Schwartz.

His platform for which he is concentrating can be measured in three points.

“The lack of security in the area has become a real issue. Four homes, including mine have been vandalized since last December. There has to be a larger presence of public security,” added Schwartz.

“Secondly, you have to listen to the citizens. You do this my making yourself accessible, making yourself accountable to the issues which arise.” Schwartz told The Suburban.

“Thirdly, we have to work on alleviating taxes. The people are always footing the bill, and its time to step in and help.”

He is a regular supporter of happenings at the local synagogue. Schwartz does attend council meeting a couple of times a year, but believes that it is more of rubber stamping then accountability.

“There is little interest in the present council to tackle the issues which affect the citizens” added Schwartz.

He was quick to point out the banning of street hockey which was held on a side street in the afternoon with adult supervision. “Why council decided to take action made no sense. I was against that policy” he said.

“New blood is required in making changes” added Schwartz.
